Tiny Naylors – B-17
This painting was sparked more by imaginative impulse, than being a historical representation, so I went with it since I was painting it to amuse myself. I recall being angered by the fact that the Tiny Naylor’s Drive-in located in Hollywood Had been torn down for one, and remembering when it was popular to put an airplane on the top of buildings to attract attention in an earlier time, so they came together in this painting. I wasn’t sure it would quite work, and I’m not sure that it did, as they seem to conflict with each other.
A few tears later when I realized I might have a market for my hot rods & architecture paintings I began to publish some, and the piece was among them. Surprisingly, it was a very popular piece.
